A Spoiling Rain

[Machine Translation] The DVD of the movie "Hana Fu Shi", which will be released in 2023 and has received many awards and nominations at domestic film awards, will be released! Haruhiko Arai, one of Japan's leading screenwriters with works such as "The Tragedy of W" ('84) and "Vibrator" ('03), has chosen to direct his fourth film, following the award-winning "The Two of Fire" ('19). He took on the challenge of "super translation" as a filmmaker by incorporating a motif not found in the original work, "the declining sunset of the pink film industry" into the screenplay. The main character, Tochiya (Kukuni), is played by Tsuyoshi Ayano, his opposite Izeki by Tasuku Emoto, and the actress, Shoko, who has an unusual relationship with both of them, by Honami Satou. --A film director, Tochiya (Kutani), who lives in the dying pink film industry, and a man, Iseki, who wanted to become a scriptwriter. The woman they both loved was the same woman. The waka poem "Hana-hotoshi" from the Manyoshu (The Anthology of Myriad Leaves), which is quoted in the title, expresses the rain that pours down so hard that it rots even the beautifully blooming flowers of the Ugi (Deutzia japonica) tree. As the title suggests, Tochiya and Iseki meet one day during the rainy season and begin to talk about the woman they loved. Then, as their dreams of making movies, which the three have clung to for so long, begin to crumble, their respective lives intersect... Photobook ( 12 pages ) enclosed.

2023年公開、国内映画賞にて受賞・ノミネート多数、映画『花腐し』DVDの発売が決定! 原作は、第123回芥川賞に輝いた松浦寿輝による同名小説。『Wの悲劇』(84)や『ヴァイブレータ』(03)などを手がけ、日本を代表する脚本家のひとりである荒井晴彦が、数多くの賞を受賞した『火口のふたり』(19)に続く自身4作目の監督作品として選んだ本作。"ピンク映画界の斜陽"という原作にはないモチーフを脚本に取り入れ、映画作家としての"超訳"に挑んだ。主人公・栩谷 (くたに)に綾野剛、相対する伊関に柄本佑、そして、ふたりとの奇縁を結ぶ女優・祥子にさとうほなみがそれぞれ扮し、ふたりの男とひとりの女が織りなす、切なくも純粋な愛の物語が誕生。 ――廃れていくピンク映画業界で生きる映画監督・栩谷 (くたに)と脚本家志望だった男・伊関。ふたりが愛した女は同じ女だった。タイトルに引用された万葉集の和歌「花腐し」とは、きれいに咲いた卯木 (うつぎ)の花をも腐らせてしまう、じっとりと降りしきる雨を表現している。そのタイトル通り、梅雨のある日に出会った栩谷と伊関は、自分たちの愛した女について語り始める。そして、三人がしがみついてきた映画への夢がボロボロと崩れ始める中、それぞれの人生が交錯していく――。フォトブック (12P)封入。
