Black Cherry was a disaster, and I wasn't interested in any of the singles that followed. While I was interested in Kingdom's release, I was a little nervous that it would be a piece of crap.
To my surprise and delight, Kingdom is a strong, fluid, and coherent pop album filled with Kuu's trademark J-Urban sounds. The majority of the tracks fall under the urban/hip-pop vibe ('Anata ga Shite Kureta Koto', 'Amai Wana',' Under', 'Black Cherry', Last Angel, etc), but Kuu also branches out into other genres; some we've seen her do (dance, cutesy, ballad), others (like the jazz vibe to 'MORE'), are completely new.
While there are so many styles in use in this album, the tracks tend to flow quite well and give the disc a feeling of connection and solidarity. They did an excellent job avoiding the schizophrenic mess of Black Cherry. While track order certainly plays a part in that, another key factor is that while the tracks are varied in style, they're not nearly as extreme as they were in her previous album.
The single tracks failed to interest me much throughout the year, but I found them much more appealing on the album. Particularly Aisho, which is just gorgeous and cool. I've even warmed up to the weirdness of BUT. The last-minute single anytime is really sweet, but I feel it really wasn't strong enough to be a single. It would've been better left as a pleasant surprise on the album. I could probably say that for a good chunk of the singles though, as I truly enjoyed the album tracks more this time around. Who could say no to the simple and stylish urban feel of 'Anata ga Shite Kureta Koto', or 'Himitsu'? Or the gorgeous and uniquely sweet introduction piece?
Kuu was really on point for the majority of this album. The only misses were the formulaic cute tracks 'Koi no Mahou' and 'Wonderland' (which is an assault on the senses and needs some serious Ritalin). The bonus full length of the introduction to Black Cherry is weak, disconnected, noisy, awkward, out of place, and generally a waste of time. They need to learn that her introductions are cool, but should be left alone. Only Get It On is allowed.
For its minor ups and downs, Kingdom plays well. It's a strong effort, and I really enjoyed it. There's something about it that really reminds me of the good old days of secret. It has the same feeling, and quality level of secret, and has become one of my favourite Kuu albums (alongside secret and Best - Second Session -). I'd love to see Kuu Continue with this level of quality in all of her work.

Best Album From Ku 5

A friend just gave me this album as a birthday present which she bought from right here, Cd Japan. After being incredibly disapointed with her last two albums Black Cherry and Best Second Session, in which the only songs I'd liked were You, Love Goes Like, Regret, Koi No Tsubomi and Ningyo Hime This album seemed SO much better to me. It has alot more low tempo songs that really make this album easy to listen to as compared to the non stop ero kawaii dance track albums she's made in the past. Best songs on here hands down would have to be Anytime, Aishou, Last Angel~Feat. Tohoshinki, wonderland and Ai No Uta. Songs on here I immediately didn't like were Under, Amai Wana and the full version of Black Cherry. The songs But and Freaky were only okay for me. But they did feature new styles not previously heard before and better vocals then I'm used to hearing from Ku. If Your looking for something different from Koda Kumi and not just some racey follow up to Black Cherry then buy this. I feel like it expresses Ku's preferences in music more and who she is as a person, reminding you that she is more a lover of R&B and Soul and not just something exotic to listen to or watch.

A solid album release 3

Everybody was talking about this release, so of course I had to get a copy and see for myself. I like it, but I definitely think Black Cherry was better. Kingdom has many good tracks and I overall enjoy this release, but there are songs I always skip. "LAST ANGEL" is my least favorite song here, I just can't stand how Dong Bang Shin Ki's boys sing, their voices don't go together with Kumi's. There are some other weaker songs too, but then there are some really stylish tracks I love to pieces (like "BUT", "FREAKY" and "Amai Wana").

Still, I recommend this album. It has variety of styles and definitely something for everyone and her strong voice in both dance songs and ballads shouldn't be overlooked. It's just a matter of personal taste if you enjoy the whole release or not.

i think this is the besty album of all koda kumi album's i like the other albums aswell but this has more of a pop, rock and r'n'b feel to it i still love the song from this album Last Angel

Kingdom of music genres 5

Long awaited Koda Kumi's 6th Album finaly on sale! I should admit that it's not only her BEST album so far, BUT also one of the BEST music CD's I've ever heard. All songs are Very High quality, really Great composed and belongs to many different genres. Album cover & photosession made for Kingdom truly stunning, Kumi looks really Georgeous!
It's definetley worth every cent, which I've paid for all three editions.
Also, First Press poster is very beautiful too!

Very good album ! 5

Excellent album in every single way ! The non-single tracks are all more than just ok, ''Amai Wana'', ''Himitsu'', ''Under'', ''MORE'' and ''Black Cherry'' are my favorites. Definitevely a long step forward for Kumi after Black Cherry, which was very good too but it lacked a little in the non-singles tracks.
