Well, I would agree that this work is much much better than Yamada Yoji's samurai trilogy (The Twilight Samurai, The Hidden Blade, Love and Honor). All I can say is that this movie has something special and this one is for sure my no.1 favorite. What's the most beautiful part of this work is probably all those wonderful sceneries of Japan's nature. The music is so deep and, I would say, inspiring... Well, and ofcourse, the most important things: pure love, honor of a warrior, friendship and caurage. In my personal oppinion, any j-stuff lover or anyone, who likes Japanese samurai culture should really see this movie. No regrets for sure. The only bad thing is that english subs will never be released. Well, let's hope at the end they will release a subbed version. Damn, the world has to see this movie. :)

An excellent interpretation of the original Fujisawa novel. The qualities of Fujisawa stories such as history, humility, swordsmanship, slow burning love, nature, and humor were all there. The movie conveys the ambiance of old rural Japan and the restrictive rules of the Samurai society. However, the sentiments and emotions conveyed are both universal and truly Japanese. I hope Mr. Kurotsuchi will make more movies based on Fujisawa books. The combination of Fujisawa and Kurotsuchi could be the potentail modern version of Akira Kurosawa and Shugoro Yamamoto team. Much much better that the interpretations (misrepresentation) of the Fujisawa world by Yoji Yamada (Tasogare and Oninotsume).
