neolog Just so not good... 1

Whenever I read online reviews where rabid fans give five star ratings regardless of the quality of material, and equally rabid haters dish out zeros without ever having experienced it, I just roll my eyes.
I try to be objective and fair, and give things ratings that reflect the material. But this album is crap. Pure crap. It's not even steaming. It's the kind of crusty, dried out old crap that you find lying in the garden, then either bury in the dirt or sneakily toss into your neighbour's yard when no one is looking. The very fact that you ever came into contact with it must be kept secret, lest people think you're terrible, or weird.
It's rehashed. It's old news. She's done it a hundred times before, and better at that. 'Mirror' is good, but it's better in its incarnation as the full song Mirrorcle World. Awful title, but a lot more bang for your buck. That release alone makes this album null and void. She should've just skipped this and gone straight to that single. And who cares aout what would happen to the pre-album singles? glitter? Please. Did we honestly need 'fairyland 3.0'? fated was boring too.
talkin' 2 myself and decision were a waste of time as well. Some of the worst rock songs she's ever put out. She's really dug herself a crud rut it seems. She just can't get out of this crud for some reason. 'Together when...' was alright, until I realized that she's released that song more times than fairyland. It's the same ballad with the same sound, formula, cruddy vocals, and forced emotion and vibrato she's given us over and over. Even watching the PV was like watching a compilation of clips from her other PVs. People went on and on about the meaning and symbolism in it. Yeah, the rain symbolizes pain and renewal. Anyone with a grade 9 education and the words 'pathetic fallacy' could tell you that. But they're wrong anyway. the rain is actually the tears of people who are so sick of her redundant crap.
Even the imagery of dolls/puppets is stale.
It's high time that Ayu take a break and really think about what she wants and needs to say musically. She needs to treat her music like her wardrobe: keep it updated, change it constantly, do new and interesting things with it.
Ayu wouldn't be caught dead wearing the same dress twice, so why is she ok with repackaging songs over and over again?

neolog ~Darker lyrics only add jewels to Japan¡Çs ¡ÈGuilty¡É J-pop crowned Queen! 5

It¡Çs been eleven years since Ayumi Hamasaki began what looked like a timid singing career but has since flourish into the sensational phenomenon that has filled Japanese arenas and has wowed international fans. The Queen of J-pop, as I like to call her has not slowed down, even with the loss of her hearing. She is seizing the moment and pushing herself, and her career to their limits. Her 9th Studio album ¡ÈGuilty¡É is just one testament of her continuing projects that just keeps getting better and better, and reminding us why this cute mini-Japanese Kogal is a star.
¡ÈGuilty¡É is funky, it¡Çs dark, its emotional, and its exciting. It is one of the best albums the singer has produced with a lot of new flavors. She is famous for her upbeat tunes, and high vocal songs you can get up and jump on your bed to, but now she¡Çs famous for the complete opposite. While ¡ÈGuilty¡É does contain some cheery tunes, such as ¡ÈGlitter¡É it is also filled with darker, harsher songs. A little unusual for the star who even in concerts is anything but downhearted. However, instead of getting depressed, the songs are moving, touching, and refreshing. They bring out many different sides of the star, turning her from the sweet, fairy princess into almost someone we can relate to. We have laughed with her and now we can cry with her. And that feels good. She makes it feel good.
The music, accompanying her vocals are incredibly well executed and mixed. There are some instrumental pieces that are beyond impressive. Take the song ¡ÈDecision.¡É It starts out smooth, with sweet sounding violins and the charming and heart breaking piano. Then in a blink of an eye, the bass, drums and guitar comes in, illustrating the a peaceful landscape suddenly taken by a tornados and storms. And when Ayumi comes in, she tells the story of betrayal, of sorrow, begging, pleading for relief, but there¡Çs none and it sounds golden. It is just one of the beautiful songs in this disc that tells such an intense stories you can dance to, hum to, sin to if you¡Çre Japanese or have memorized the songs.
Something familiar she has brought aback in this disc is combination of different genres, or pop, rock, metal, and even dance. She is classified as a J-pop artist, but I have always believed she is more than that, being the vocalist, lyricist and composer of most of her music. She has a unique gift to take inspiration and express it in many different types of music and combine them together. She has done it against in this disc and it is for that reason that I believe she has touched so many fans all over the world. There is something for everyone and anyone can enjoy what her music has to offer.
If you get a chance to find her lyrics translated, Ayumi has come back with amazing imagery and story telling in her music. My favourite translation is for ¡ÈDecision.¡É The song really is about the struggle for power and control of the self, but the way Ayumi describes it is endearing. The only thing I can say without giving too much away is she made the sorrowful story it sound so sweet, gentle and delicate, that the pain she was talking about became almost too painful of an experience. The actual song expresses nothing less which is amazing.
The one thing I can comment on, for me personally, is that her discs are never a solid listen. She has created so many beautiful songs, so well written, so well sung and played that engaged the listeners, evoke emotions of joy, the celebration of youth and feminity in carefree delight. And now, the sharing of sorrow with Ayumi, who acts like a fellow girl friend with a shoulder to cry on. But, there are always two or more songs that don¡Çt keep up with the rest. They can¡Çt stand alone and fall on their faces. But in this disc, I found none! So I couldn¡Çt be prouder of her. Every song is very strong and makes it a great album to play over and over and over again.
The version that I got for my birthday was the CD and DVD Edition. Unfortunately I couldn¡Çt watch the DVD because of the regional code. I¡Çm sorry that I can¡Çt tell you anything about the behind the scenes sections of the making of portions, but thanks to Dailymotion.com and You Tube, I can talk a bit about the music videos featured on the DVD. I thought the mini 2 part film for ¡ÈGlitter¡É and ¡ÈFated¡É were so sweet and adorable. I was impressed to see them filmed like a soap Opera, and ending very much like a real Soap. Ayumi is a decent actress and I was particularly impress with her during ¡ÈFated.¡É My two favourites of the videos were ¡ÈTogether When¡Ä¡É and ¡ÈMarionette.¡É Both used puppets imagery which was genus. Marionette impressed me the most. It had very little story but lots of symbolism, dance and was very stylized, similar to a lot of Ayumi¡Çs most captivating videos. I adored the costumes and make-up as well. ¡ÈTogether When¡Ä¡É was a favourite because of the story. It was sweet and tragic and just the kind of thing I love. It was also very simple and again had a lot of symbolism. The ¡ÈTogether When¡Ä¡É video seemed to clarify the song, and made it easy to understand what the song was about, or at least for us English speaking North Americans. But if you look at the translation, its not telling the story the music video tells, but that¡Çs ok. Most of Ayumi¡Çs videos are like that, but often they do have factors that connect them together and in the end the song and the video support and complement each other as these videos did. The weakest video out of the bunch was ¡È[don¡Çt] Leave me alone.¡É The song is so jazzy, so I thought a lot more could have been done in the video. Really, all it has is Ayumi in a flashy outfit walking about and three of her back-up dancers spring out every now and again to steal and replace her tie. Perhaps understanding the song might have helped a little bit but there simply wasn¡Çt a lot to the video. There wasn¡Çt a lot of performance, dancing, or any other form of expression to support the song. So, it made me wonder why it was even done in the first place?
This album is combination of many things old and new and is almost like a new, vamped up resume for Ayumi. It has secure her place in the industry as an icon and international success. It has revealed many new and awesome sides to Ayumi¡Çs music and has showed us just what she is capable of. If you¡Çre a Ayumi fan and don¡Çt have this golden disc in you¡Çre collection, you are out of your mind! This is the best of the best of her works. And just goes to show you, that age is just a number, and illness is just another obstacle you can jump over. Ayumi is ¡ÈGuilty¡É of having the whole package: Talent, dedication, passion, hard working, beautiful in mind, heart, body and soul. And she is here to stay!

neolog GUILTY 2

The only thing this album is GUILTY of being is complete and utter tripe. Her music has steadily gone down in worth and this and NEXT LEVEL is proof that she really does need to take a break.

Guilty DVD 5

As always, compared to the CD-only version the concent of the CD is exactly the same. But the different cover is enough reason for me to buy both versions.
Aside from the already known music videos for the previously released singles, the DVD edition contains the clips for '(Don't) Leave me alone' and 'Marionette' as well as the short film 'Kyo Ai -Distance Love-' (released with the single 'glitter/fated').

Thrilling 4

I actually enjoy listening to GUILTY.

I personnaly think it is one of her best album, along with "I am".

The songs are all very nice, never boring, and she does great vocal performance in the show.

I like Marionnette quite a lot. Together when is just wonderful I love how her voice gets high.

This is a romantic album, so if you prefer the Electronic Ayu, watch out for Next Level, or I am, or one of her numerous remixes

I FELT GUILTY 4

My gosh! I felt guilty 'cause I didn't preorder so I didn't get the FPE with booklet, however, some FOE CD version were stocked up again and bought it twice. Hahaha, good but not ecellent, lots of interludes...But PV's are excellent!

pure LOVE 5

this is one of my personal favourites from her. all songs are exellent in my oppinion. and the PV's are awsome too.

this should be in everyone's Ayu collection!!!!!!!!

Guilty for being awesome 5

Ayu's 9th studio album is great. I'm so into her rock songs and this one hit the right spot! But then there's the touching ballads and it becomes a great listening experience.
The PVs are so well done, as usual. I loved the PV for Marionette.

Not As Good, But Good Nonetheless 5

Album wasn't bad at all. Though I do like some of her prior albums better, this album is still worth every listen. Unlike Secret this album mixes up the pop and rock tracks. I was kind of disappointed there were only 5-6 new album songs though (I'm not counting the 1-2 minute intro/interludes). Of those new album tracks, the one song that had an impact on me was obviously Untitled (For Her). I particularly loved (Don't) Leave Me Alone as well, but what I really wanted was a PV for Untitled and not (Don't) Leave Me Alone...it was quite boring and I'm sure they could have made a better PV for Untitled.

The best at present! 5

The best from A.Hamasaki, that is let out at present! Heavy, gloomy tone injects new life into role of the singer. Obeys on one breath. Remarkable DVD a disk with 5th clips on lethal hits. To all I recommend!

Great! 5

One of the best Ayu's albums, I think. Great combination of rock songs and ballads. Beautiful PVs, Kyo Ai ~Distance Love~ is one of the best music videos I've seen! Highly recommend =)

one more star for Ayu ! 5

Guilty is THE ALBUM ! it tells a story. Is a really heavy album, you have to listen again once it comes to an end. If you are thinkig of buying it, then do it now. It's a very good album for a 9th anniversary ! then after this we`ll look forward for a new album of her 10th anniversary !!

This is great! 5

This is a great album - Ayu never fails to disappoint.

It's not her best album, but then I struggle to say which is her best album (owning all of them), but the lyrics never fail to impress and I can't wait to go to Asia Tour 2008 to see some of these live - am busy sorting tickets at the moment :-)

Let's see what she releases for us this year!
