Controversy, comes after masterpiece 'Dirty Mind' and it a bridge between that album and synthesizer driven'1999'. It's enjoyable for most parts, but not all the tracks will have a lasting impact. Still as whole the album is fun. Nontheless Prince has written down some songs for this project that are classic in his backcatalogue and can't be missed for a true fan of his music. "Let's work", "Do Me Baby" and the title track "Controversy" are amongs his best compositions and this album is worth getting for just these 3 songs. So if you are familiar with the albums I earlier mentioned, this album starts to make a whole lot of sense. Somehow Prince wasn't able to make "bad" albums during the 8ties.
