Christopher Cross [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]

I purchased this SHM-CD under the impression that it was a 2008 remastering of the 1979 LP. Apparently, upon hearing a couple of tracks, I quickly realized that this sounded very much like an analog recording, not a digital one. I was later informed that, as I suspected upon hearing, this is just the initial 1990 CD pressing grafted onto the SHM-CD format. What makes that so special is lost on me, since Hi-Definition sound is ALWAYS implied when advertising a brand new pressing of an old recording in HD format. Who wants a Blue-Ray DVD of STAR WARS taken from a VHS tape from 1986? I never even questioned that the sound wasn't remastered, since another review touted the quality of this particular CD's sound. This is the first instance I've encountered a brand new pressing of an SHM-CD that was not newly-remastered/remixed. Now, I'll have to be even more vigilant (which I always am) about what kind of versions of HD CDs I'll be purchasing in the future. So, just be forewarned, this is the same analog sound from the 1990 CD (already available in America), and, sadly still, this Grammy-winning, 5X-platinum recording has yet to be reproduced in quality, modernized, 21st Century sound. Thankfully, CD Japan, upon receiving my query about this package, agreed to let me exchange it for another CD Japan package, which will most definitely be a CONFIRMED remastered CD from their growing library. So, keep waiting for Warner Bros. to "bake" the master tapes of this best-selling debut LP from '79.
