時代と国境を超え、受け継がれる命のバトン。名曲から生まれた壮大な感動巨編。 さだまさしが1987年に発表した楽曲「風に立つライオン」。アフリカ・ケニアで国際医療活動に従事した実在の日本人医師・柴田紘一郎をモデルに作られたこの曲は、日本に残してきた恋人に宛てた手紙を歌にのせ、壮大なスケールで綴る名曲。その曲に惚れ込んだ大沢たかおが『風に立つライオン』の小説化・映画化を熱望したことから今回のプロジェクトが始まった。彼の願いを受けたさだまさしが、同名の小説を発表したのは2013年。そして2015年、大沢たかお主演による念願の映画版が誕生。 物語りの主人公は、長崎の大学病院からケニアの研究施設・熱帯医学研究所に派遣された日本人医師・航一郎。周辺で戦闘が続くこの地で、心に傷を負った元少年兵と出会った彼は、少年と真っ直ぐ向き合うことで医師としての生き方を見つめ直す。 豪華キャスト陣にアフリカ・ケニアの現場で航一郎を支える看護師・草野和歌子役に石原さとみ、日本に残してきた愛する恋人・秋島貴子役に真木よう子、その他、萩原聖人、鈴木亮平、石橋蓮司など、実力派俳優が集結。 特典ディスク (DVD)には、メイキング・オブ・「風に立つライオン」、舞台挨拶集 (完成披露舞台挨拶、「三池崇史監督presents 大人だけの空間」ビルボードトークショー、初日舞台挨拶)、「風に立つライオン」特別映像(主題歌フルバージョン)、特報・予告・TVスポット集を収録。ブックレット封入。
