サザンオールスターズの紅一点。キーボーディストであり、ボーカル・コーラス・アレンジなども幅広く担当し、バンドの音楽的かつ精神的支柱である原由子が、1991年発表の『MOTHER』以来、実に31年ぶりのオリジナルアルバムをリリース!! 『はらゆうこが語るひととき』(1981年)、『Miss YOKOHAMADULT YUKO HARA 2nd』(1983年)、『MOTHER』(1991年)に続く、4作目のオリジナルアルバムのタイトルは『婦人の肖像 (Portrait of a Lady)』。クリムトの絵画から着想を得て名付けられた本作のスタジオ制作作業が始まったのは、コロナ禍真っ只中の2021年7月。44年の音楽キャリアを共に生き抜いてきた"戦友"そして"楽友"である桑田佳祐による全面バックアップのもと、柔軟で彩り豊かな音楽性と、野心的で実験的なサウンドメイクに磨きがかけられ、穏やかで柔らかな"原由子"のパブリックイメージを大胆に刷新する作品になった。音楽人として、そして目まぐるしく移ろう社会を渡り歩き、時代と闘ってきた来たひとりの女性として、ただひたすらに音楽と向き合い発露した彼女の"本懐"がこのアルバムには色濃く表現されている。本作には新曲が全10曲収録される予定で、桑田佳祐によって作詞・作曲された新曲「ヤバいね愛てえ奴は」が、7月12日(火)より放送開始となるNHK総合 ドラマ10「プリズム」の主題歌に決定。今年配信Netflixシリーズ「ぐでたま～母をたずねてどんくらい～」の主題歌として書き下ろされた楽曲「ぐでたま行進曲」も収録! 完全生産限定盤には、40年以上にわたるソロキャリア初の映像作品集「Harvest」を同梱!! 1980年代～2000年代にかけて制作されたミュージックビデオが全11曲収録! さらにボーナストラックとして2010年に開催した鎌倉芸術館でのライブ映像を3曲追加収録!! ブックレット内に原由子が本作のために書き下ろしたエッセイ「婦人の肖像 (Portrait of a Lady) あとがき」が掲載されることが決定! あとがきには、原由子がアルバム制作に取りかかるにあたってのきっかけや、制作過程秘話、さらには1曲ずつに対しての想いが掲載される。
