It seems odd to write "solo debut" given I have been collecting music for some time that I would identify primarily with Miho Hatori - "Cibo Matto", "Butter 08", and "Smokey and Miho". But "Ecdysis" did create a new entry in my collection for "Miho Hatori". My appreciation of the former projects of Miho Hatori's stem largely from my admiration of her vocal talents. Her unique voice is easily identifiable. Irrespective of what band or project she is in, it is easy to say "That is Miho Hatori". What fan wouldn't instantly recognize the "Get the Cool" chorus on Gorillaz "19-2000" as being Miho? This new album provides 11 tracks of all new Miho, with tracks in both English and Japanese. The songs are a varied lot of what I'd possibly categorise as "easy listening alternative". Miho herself provides a good background and explanation of the tracks is available (in both Japanese and English) on her personal website. I'd recommend owners and potential buyers of this CD check it out. The price is also incredibly good for a full length new release album.
