The failure of Big Star's debut album to hit the charts must have affected founder member Chris Bell really hard. When the power axis shifted towards Alex Chilton, Bell decided to leave, but not after having a hand in writing some of the songs for the next album (not officially acknowledged tho'). The songs of Radio City are just as good as those in their debut. September Gurls is now the classic power pop song. Other gems include Back Of A Car and Way Out West. The remaining trio of Chilton, Stephens and Hummel were further reduced to two (with Hummel leaving) by the time they started recording their third album. Radio City is still available as a two-in-one CD/SACD with #1 Record in the US and Europe. However, this cardboard sleeve edition is the only way of having the album on its own.
