[VENUS NEW MIX DSD MASTERING SERIES] アメリカではクラリネットの王様ベニー・グッドマンの後継者と呼ばれており、暖かくメロディックなアドリブはベニー・グッドマンをも凌ぐものがある。それに加え、彼は同系統の楽器とはいえ、テナー・サックスもこなし、その演奏も甲乙つけがたいものがある。このCDでもタイトル曲のメモリーズ・オブ・ユーを最初と最後の曲でテナー・サックスとクラリネットで吹きわけている。またテッド・ローゼンタールのピアノのアドリブも素晴らしい。スウィング・ジャズを始点とするアメリカにおける白人系正統派、モダンジャズの健在を知らせてくれている。この頃はシリアスで過度にテクニック偏重なジャズがもてはやされておりますが、この演奏を聴くと、楽しく、美しく、メロディックなジャズの原点を我々に示してくれている。CDのプロデュースに日本人の原テツオ氏参加。
