Portrait + Carlito [SHM-CD]

This special tribute album is a Japan-exclusive release that brings together the first and last albums recorded by Carlos Marin, the baritone singer best known as a member of the world-renowned multinational vocal group Il Divo, who continues to enjoy passionate popularity in Japan. Marin, known as the leader of Il Divo and a pioneer of classical crossover, passed away on December 19, 2021, at the age of 53, after contracting COVID-19 during a tour in the UK. In October 2020, he released his solo cover album "Portrait," a collection of songs he personally wished to sing, which turned out to be his final recording. Now, four years after his passing, at the request of his mother, Magdalena Menchero, and sister, Rosie Marin - who wanted to create a special tribute for his devoted Japanese fans - the release of "Portrait + Carlito" has been realized. "Carlito," released in the Netherlands in January 1981 when Carlos was 12, was his first album. The title "Carlito" means "little Carlos" in Spanish. It features cheerful pop songs based on Neapolitan folk music and European pop of the time, showcasing glimpses of the extraordinary vocal talent that would later define him. This edition also includes two bonus tracks. "Portrait," his final recording, contains ten exceptional cover songs that he masterfully reinterpreted in his own style, including "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith, "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley, "Careless Whisper" by Wham! featuring George Michael, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, and "Paradise (Love Theme)" from the film "Footloose." A special message from his mother Magdalena Menchero and sister Rosie Marin to Japanese fans is included in the Japanese commentary booklet. The product also comes with a tri-fold mini photo book (six-panel accordion style) containing rare private photos provided by his family. この素晴らしい歌声は永遠に不滅!! いまなお日本でも熱狂的な人気を誇るイル・ディーヴォの元メンバーとして知られるバリトン歌手、カルロス・マリンが生前に録音した最初と最後のアルバムをセットにした日本独自企画による追悼盤。クラシカル・クロスオーヴァーの先駆的存在で、世界的人気を誇る多国籍男性ヴォーカル・グループ、イル・ディーヴォの中心メンバーとして知られるバリトン歌手、カルロス・マリンが生前に録音した最初と最後のアルバムをセットにした日本独自企画によるスペシャル・トリビュート・アルバム。日本でも熱狂的な人気を誇るイル・ディーヴォのリーダー的存在としておなじみのカルロスですが、2021年12月にツアー先のイギリスでコロナに感染し、同月19日に死去。享年53歳だった。その前年の2020年10月に、カルロスは"自身が歌いたいと思った歌"を集めたソロ名義のカヴァー・アルバム『ポートレイト』をリリース。実は、この『ポートレイト』が彼の生前最後に吹き込んだアルバムとなりました。その後、カルロスの母マグダレナ・メンチェロ、そしてカルロスの姉ロージー・マリンから、「いまもなおカルロスを忘れないで愛し続けてくれている日本のファンに、何かスペシャルなトリビュート・アルバムのような作品を作りたい」というご遺族の意向で、没後4年の命日を前に、カルロスが生前に録音した最初と最後に録音したソロ名義のアルバムをセットにしたこの『ポートレイト+カリート』のリリースが実現。日本初発売となる『カリート』は、1981年1月にオランダでリリースされた、カルロスが12歳の時に録音した最初のアルバム。アルバム・タイトルの『カリート』は、スペイン語で「カルロス」の愛称を意味する言葉。ナポリ民謡や当時のヨーロピアン・ポップスなどをベースにした、12歳のカルロスが歌う明るいポップ・ソングが満載されているが、すでにこのアルバムでも圧倒的な歌唱力で知られる彼の才能の片鱗がうかがえる内容となっている。今回はボーナス・トラック2曲も追加収録。また、カルロスの生前最後の録音となった『ポートレイト』にはエアロスミスの「ミス・ア・シング」、リック・アストリーの大ヒット「ギヴ・ユー・アップ」、ワム! featuring ジョージ・マイケル名義でリリースされた「ケアレス・ウィスパー」、クイーンの「ボヘミアン・ラプソディ」、映画「フットルース」の"愛のテーマ"としておなじみの「パラダイス～愛のテーマ」など、圧倒的な歌唱力を誇る彼が自身の色に染めなおした秀逸なカヴァー全10曲を収録。今回のアルバムの発売に寄せて、カルロスの母マグダレナ・メンチェロ、そして姉ロージー・マリンから日本のファンのみなさんに向けたメッセージも、日本語解説書に掲載。さらにマグダレナとロージーが提供してくれた生前のカルロスの貴重なプライベート写真を含む三つ折りのミニ・フォト・ブック (6面蛇腹式)も商品に封入。解説・歌詞・対訳付 (※ただし、DISC 2は4曲のみ歌詞・対訳付/マグダレナ・メンチェロ (母)、ロージー・マリン (姉)からのスペシャル・メッセージ付)、SHM-CD仕様、日本独自企画盤。
