this who release in 1973 is where the who started to get off base with there 60s roots and try different stuff, personally I LOVE THIS CONCEPT album, the who may have been the first band ever to release a concept album with tommy in 1969 but that is for another review, though townshend worked on lighthouse after tommy it did not pan out and instead turned into the classic whos next record wich by some fans account was there last great record, not in my opinion though, anyway quadrophinia is a concept based on the british /london mod scene of the late 1950s and early 1960s and its about a mod named jimmy who basically loses his mind from all the insanity that went with that lifestyle. if you fast foward to 1979 a movie and a soundtrack album made by the who where done, anyway this was the original first concept album and this includes both hits like 515, love reigh on me and drowned as well as none hit songs that are amazing like the punk meets the godfather, sea and sand as well as bellboy, some suggest this was the who giving prog rock a shot but i disagree, this album sounds like nothing any other artist recorded before 1973, this is in an entity of its own, i love tommy but of the two concept who albums this was my favorite, as always this has great packaging, shm mastering wich makes this sound better then ever and includes a lot of townshends home demos of these songs wich are just as great as what made the original lp set, this was one of the whos best records from the 70s this was a far jump from the mod rough who albums of the 60s like my generation, a quick one and sell out!!!!!!! i felt the who kept getting better until the last great who album who by numbers in 1975, this cd set will really take you on an amazing journey as they say, i loved this and related so much to it growing up that this is why this concept by the who i like a bit better then tommy, really great classic rock n roll here a must for any who fan or collecter.
