Description

Mariah Carey plays Billie Frank, the singer discovered by a famous club DJ who takes her on a wild ride to stardom. Contrary to popular notion, this is not Carey's life story which the artist herself stated repeatedly. Her character seems to be named after two legendary vocalists (one black female, and one white male) since, unlike Carey herself, Billie Frank has a black mother and a white father. Always reliable Dorian Harewood is among her co-stars. The movie has taken a lot of flack for the star's acting range and the uninspired rags-to-riches storyline, but actually the film isn't that bad, and it should be a treat for her fans for the soundtrack that contains 11 songs, including the big hits "Loverboy," and "Never Too Far".
