Heart Station is Hikaru's strongest album yet without trying to throw too much at the listener in one go like Ultra Blue, her previous album. It can be easy listening or something to really get into depending on your mood, and the new tracks such as "Take 5", "Prisoner of Love", and "Niji-iro Bassu" are amazing additions to the album. Heart Station's sound is a mix between Ultra Blue's strong synth and her R&B roots which makes for a great combination. Highly recommended.
Heart Station Customer Reviews
Hikaru Utada
This is such a good album. All the songs sound so good and all are created by Hikki herself! The songs that, in my opinion, stand out the most are "Prisoner of Love", "Stay Gold", "Take 5" and "Beautiful World". Well worth buying!
Really a diverse album. Some of the tracks on this album really make it relaxing to listen to. Heart Station, Stay Gold, Beautiful World are great. I'm glad Prisoner of Love became a recut single because it definitely has A-side potential. Catchy to listen to.
I hate to say it, but I was really disappointed with this album. I love Utada Hikaru. She is one of my favorite singers, but this album just wasn't up to par. Don't get me wrong, there are good tracks such as "Flavor of Life" and "Prisoner of Love." But, others like "Boku wa Kuma" just disappointed me. I recommend this album for Hikki fans and for people who like softer more mellow music. I really like more up-beat tracks.
I luv Hiki so I'm going to like anything she does. I didn't think this album was as good as her Deep River album, which is my favorite from her, but this is still one of her best. Everything has a very sentimental feel to it and Hiki's vocals are lovely. It's a classic. Songs to look out for are Prisoner Of Love, Kiss Or Cry, Beutiful World, Stay Gold and Boku Wa Kuma. I'm also am grateful she put the upbeat version of Flavor of Life, which I like better than the ballad version, on here as a bonus track. GET THIS! You won't regret it.
This album is by far my favorit album by Utada Hikaru. Every song is amazing and there are absolutely no tracks that should be skipped while listening. Actually, I was thoroughly impressed by how well the non-singles hold up to the previously released singles. My favorit songs from the album are: -Fight the Blues -Stay Gold -Kiss and Cry -Prisoner of Love (Absolute Favorite) -Take 5 If you buy this album I don't think you'll be disappointed!
As a major fan of Utadas I tend to find myself buying everything she releases until Ultra Blue which I found to be disappointing and I stopped keep up to date with Utada. When I found out she was gonna be releasing a new album the fanboy inside me burst out of its shell and I just had to pre-order this weather I'd like it or not in the long run. I can happily say this is so far my favorite album of 2008. Unlike Ultra Blue this album actually flows really nicely from one track to the next and each track is simply amazing, however the album is a little spoiled by Boku Wa Kuma but every other track makes up for that. My personal favorite tracks have to be Prisoner of Love and the fun catchy Niji-Iro Bus.
The only Utada CD I listen to without skipping a track. Non-single tracks (Fight The Blues, Celebrate, Prisoner of Love, Teiku 5, and Niji-iro Basu) are as good as the singles.
Fight the Blues is a good opening song, as it's kinda laid back, but also pretty emotional. It's cool! Heart Station is a nice song, but for me, it's not much to make a fuss about. Beautiful World is really pretty, and i think it's a feel good song, as it's talking about how beautiful the world is and how nice a place it can be. Flavor of Life ~Ballad Version~ is an emotional, powerful ballad which can be pretty touching. Stay Gold is one of my favourite songs on this album, it's mysterious but very beautiful, with an important message about being yourself. Kiss & Cry is a more R&B kinda song, and i'm not overly fond of it. The Gentle Beast Interlude is cool, and i love how you can hear parts of Heart Station in it. Celebrate is a really energetic song, with a totally funky rythm. It makes me wanna dance! Prisoner of Love is really touching, and a sad song. It's got some strong R&B elements too. Teiku 5 is my absolute favourite, as it's just so moving and beautiful. Pretty much breathtaking. Boku wa Kuma is just so cute. Niji-Iro Bus has a totally funky rythm, and is waaay catchy. It's spunky and bouncy! Flavor of Life is good, but the ballad's better. Way to go Hikki!
Hikki's has done a great job. Again, her songs are impressive, energetic and extraordinary. My fav. tracks in this album are Stay Gold, Teiku 5, Prisoner of Love and Fight the Blues. Her lyrics are simple yet meaningful
I totally love this album to death! Sure, the shipping was waaay slow to wait for this album, it was worth the wait! All of the songs are equally enjoyable and each individual in their own way. I love all of the tracks the same, but my favorites are "Fight the Blues," "HEART STATION," and "Prisoner of Love." This has to be Hikki's best album to date; I see no flaws in this album. The most unique track has to be "TEIKU 5" because of the abrupt ending, but the message it sends out is very beautiful yet melancholic. If you are a long-time fan of Hikki, or you're looking for a good listen, please give this a try! You will not be disappointed!
Even though I thought nothing was better than Ultra Blue, Heart Station is now my favorite album. I love ALL the songs on Heart Station, there were a few songs that werent my favorite on Ultra Blue ( although I do agree Ultra Blue had a better cover lol) New Material: Fight the Blues- perfect, a song I can listen to anytime of the day, I loved the synthesizers chords Gentle beast Interlude and Celebrate- a match made in heaven, originaly part of the same track they both complete eachother, being the two brightest songs on the album Prisoner of Love- it's suppose to be a ballad, but I think it doesnt sound like one at all (which is good), it's so original that its not pure strings and when you do have the strings it's a fast string part Take 5- the most ethreal song on the album, it's VERY beautiful, one of my favorites Niji-iro Basu- some people didnt like it, but I have to say it's my favorite on the album, beautiful vocals, and very intresting lyrics.
Heart Station is a great triumph from Utada. Each track is strong necause all the songs fit so well together. There is a feel good vibe throughout all the tracks. My favorite tracks are Celebration, Prisoner Of Love, and Niji iro basu. Niji iro basu has a driving beat that shows off Utada's playful singing style. There is even Kiss & Cry which fleshes out a song on Exodus. I've been an Utada fan since 1999 when I was living in Japan. I heard First Love piped in at Mr. Donuts and blasted through loudspeakers at baseball games. So I was there at the beginning. I would also recommend First Love and Distance. Both are great strong albums. Exodus is my least favorite. For a while Distance was my favorite Utada release until Heart Station.
I absolutely love this cd. I have been listening to it since my dad picked it up from the post office this evening. The poster is adorable. I love all the songs but my absolute favorites have to be Fight the Blues, Heart Station, and Prisoner of Love.
In this review I'll focus mainly on the new singles and the album as a whole: This album follows in Hikki's newer style, such as what you find in ULTRA BLUE - a bit electronic and dancy, not so much R&B. Fight the Blues reminds me a bit of Keep Tryin' with a bit more of an... industrial?... sound, with a bit of horn in the background. Gentle Beast Interlude feels a lot like Crossover Interlude from Exodus, with bits of Heart Station and other songs sampled. This fades perfectly into Celebrate, which is rather like a low-key background One Night Magic. Prisoner Of Love has a wonderful beat, somehow expressing the "prisoner" feel well. Take 5, apparently a song about death, has a very "riding on the wind" feel, somewhat like Kairo. It does end abruptly, which I don't mind, but it's very odd going immediately into the children's song "Boku wa Kuma". Nijiiro BASU is quite energetic, and makes me think of a bus horn honking happily, or something, and seems like a calmer version of traveling. The only songs I am still warming up to are Celebrate and Nijiiro BASU. However I'm having trouble getting a sense of the album as a whole, rather than a randomly ordered playlist of songs.
I have to say, I'm not ashamed that I downloaded this album recently to test the songs before my copy arrives this week, but in all honesty, this album kicks butt!! Up until now, Beautiful World was my favourite on the album {I got the single before} but Take 5 is a GORGEOUS melody, interwoving Utada's ethereal choral abilities unlike we've ever heard before!! Fight the Blues and Prisoner of Love are fantastic too! Overall, this album is absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait for my OFFICIAL copy to arrive!! PS> Niji-iro no Basu is adorable!!
I cannot wait for the release of this album...! The singles included in it were all awesome, some of them were even her best, in my opinion...! "Fight the Blues" is, based on the preview I heard, a very interesting song. I think, without at doubt, that the fans will not be deceived by this upcoming album. Oh, and Utada said on her blog that "Prisoner of Love" is going to be a ballad. (I like her ballads a lot!)
