Donald Byrd's early masterpieces, in which he showed his outstanding arranging ability and developed into one of Blue Note's most famous trumpeters. Many of the albums that Donald Byrd, the popular trumpeter of "Fuego," recorded for Blue Note featured the dynamic and sensitive baritone saxophonist, Pepper Adams. It is no wonder that Byrd and Adams formed a regular group from 1958 to 1962. Adams was an integral part of Byrd's music at the time, and the two musicians work well together on this album. Walter Davis Jr. on piano makes his second Blue Note appearance, following Jackie McLean's "New Soil". Davis has already contributed two original compositions to the album, and Bird's youthful performance is absolutely wonderful.
