Pickard: Kakoyku Shu

[Machine Translation] John Pickard is one of the leading contemporary British composers. Perhaps because of his strong style, he is mainly known for his orchestral works, but his smaller orchestral works, such as those on this album, also have their own unique drama and are highly enjoyable to listen to. The texts chosen are poems by Lawrence Bignon and Edward Thomas, two poets active in the first half of the 20th century, both of which express the tragic shadow of World War I and the praise of nature. 現代イギリスを代表する作曲家の一人、ジョン・ピッカード。強靭な作風による作品が多いためか、主として管弦楽作品が知られているが、このアルバムに収録されているような小さな編成の作品も、独自のドラマ性を備えており、聴き応えの多いもの。テキストに選ばれているのは20世紀前半に活躍した2人の詩人、ローレンス・ビニョンとエドワード・トーマスの詩であり、どちらも第一次世界大戦の悲痛な影と、自然への賛美が表現されている。ピッカードはこれらの詩を丁寧に音楽と融合させ、美しいピアノの伴奏を付けて絶妙な作品に仕立てている。
