Kazutoshi Sakurai ( Mr.Children ) wrote new lyrics and added his own vocals to complete the 7 minutes and 15 seconds ballad under the name of "Bank Band with Salyu"! Composed by Takeshi Kobayashi and lyrics by Kazutoshi Sakurai, this is the first time they have collaborated on a song together! The "U" in the title "to U" is a double-meaning of "YOU" and "Universe," which clearly expresses the large scale of the song's worldview and the story of how its message permeates down to the individual level. We hope that this song will inspire as many people as possible to think about new possibilities for the future. The single "For the Children to Come" is a Bank Band cover of the classic song "Three and Two" by Off Course, released in October 1979, which was cut as a single in March of the following year. The band members gathered together and made a new studio recording for the ending theme of Nippon Television's "Grave of the Fireflies," a special drama series to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. ap bankコンセプトソング「to U」リリース決定!! 今回の「to U」はBank Bandの新曲として2004年末にプロトタイプが誕生し、当初は小林武史がプロデュースを手掛けるボーカリスト・Salyu(サリュ)が仮歌を歌っていた。そのデモをTBS"NEWS 23"の筑紫哲也をはじめとするスタッフが聴き、曲の世界観と"NEWS 23"のこの春の改編の"再生"というテーマが見事に合致しているということで、同年3月28日から番組のテーマ曲として採用。その後、櫻井和寿(Mr.Children)が歌詞を新たに書き足し、自らのボーカルを加え、"Bank Band with Salyu"という名義で7分15秒に及ぶバラードの大作が完成! 作曲: 小林武史、作詞: 櫻井和寿の共作はこの曲が初めて!! タイトルの「to U」の、"U"は"YOU"と"Universe"のダブルミーニングで、曲の世界観のスケールの大きさ、そのメッセージが個人のレベルまで浸透していくストーリーを端的に表している。この曲を通してひとりでも多くの方の、未来の新たな可能性を想うきっかけが生まれることを願って・・・。 また、同シングルに収録される「生まれ来る子供たちのために」は、1979年10月にリリースされたオフコースの名盤「Three and Two」に収録され、翌年3月にシングルカットされた名曲をBank Bandがカバーしたもの。日本テレビ「終戦六十年スペシャルドラマ 火垂るの墓-ほたるのはか-」のエンディングテーマのためにメンバーが集結し、新たにスタジオ録音した。そしてオリジナルに負けず劣らず生命力あふれるカバーが完成!! ※「to U」の収益金は、ap bankを通じて、環境プロジェクト支援のために使われます。
