Description

The flower of theatrical excellence has blossomed in Naniwa! --Eikichi Yamatoya (Ryokami Furukawa), a showman who has received rapturous applause when he performs a play about the Sino-Japanese War at a theater in Dotonbori, is determined to make his next play, Harada Shigekichi's Genbumonbori, also set during the Sino-Japanese War. Nakamura Shinzo (Hasegawa Kazuo), a leading actor who is rapidly gaining in both skill and popularity, is not well received by those around him, perhaps because of his pride. Eikichi, for the sake of his art, breaks up the relationship between Shinzo and a female gidayu, Hanaryu Takemoto ( Isuzu Yamada ). The film is set in Osaka during the Meiji period and co-stars Kazuo Hasegawa and Isuzu Yamada.

[東宝DVD名作セレクション] 新蔵と花籠の仲を裂く育ての親。芝居道の立派な花が 浪華に咲いた! ――道頓堀の劇場で日清戦争を扱った芝居を上演しヤンヤの喝さいを浴びる興行師・大和屋栄吉 (古川緑波) は、次の出し物も日清戦争が舞台となった原田重吉の「玄武門破り」にすると怪気炎。腕も人気も急上昇の主演役者・中村新蔵 (長谷川一夫) は、慢心したのか周囲の評判が芳しくない。栄吉は芸のためにと、新蔵と女義太夫・竹本花龍 (山田五十鈴) の仲を裂く。腹を立てた新蔵は栄吉と決別し、東京の新富座へ買われていくが・・・ 明治期の大阪を舞台に長谷川一夫、山田五十鈴の共演で贈る、『鶴八鶴次郎』、『歌行燈』に続く成瀬巳喜男監督の芸道もの作品。
