Description

[Machine Translation] [Toho DVD Masterpiece Selection] A sister and brother who are like poplars standing in a storm with their roots firmly planted in the earth. --The story follows Masa (Yoshiko Koda) and Yutaka (Ken Kubo), a sister and brother living on the outskirts of Chitose, Hokkaido, who are subjected to unjustified harassment simply because they are Ainu... This film was shot on location in Hokkaido for a long period of time, as the vast wilderness provides the backdrop for the story. An open set of a village built along the Chitose River was later moved to a stage at the film studio, where filming continued. The film depicts an impoverished sister and brother struggling against adversity to live life to the fullest.
