Yukoku

Yukoku is a classic piece of cinema starring Japanese author Yukio Mishima. Foretelling the author's own death four years later, the film tells the story of a disgraced Japanese nationalist as he works his way towards a ceremonial sacrifice. Beautifully filmed by director Masaki Domoto with the assisitance of Mishima himself, this film sparked a number of rumors on its release. After Yukio Mishima's tragic death in 1970, rumor had it that Mishima's wife destroyed every copy of the film available. This new DVD is based on a recently found copy unearthed at the author's old residence. Includes bonus disc with English and French versions of the film (*only the text in the film differs since no lines are spoken during the film), plus special features "Yukoku no Yukio Mishima," "Yukoku" album, and "Mishima Yukio no Bungaku (The Literature of Yukio Mishima)." Package includes replica hand-written message from Yukio Mishima about "Yukoku" and booklet. Housed in beautiful Japanese paper style case.
