Based on Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey," the story begins when the Greek hero Odysseus (Ulisse) returns to his native Ithaca after 20 years of hardship and suffering. This is the second production in the Monteverdi series directed by Audi, following "The Crowning of Poppea," which was released in Japan in March 2009 to great acclaim. The simple and unadorned stage clearly reveals the essence of the work. Glenn Wilson, a leading keyboardist of ancient music, leads an ensemble of original instruments and talented singers, including Rolf Johnson, Brian Asawa, and Toby Spence, in a lively and well-coordinated musical performance.
