Based on Riko Murai's nonfiction essay "Ani no Shimai (Bring Him Down to a Portable Size)," this is a new family story depicting four chaotic days that begin with the sudden news of the death of her estranged older brother. Starring Kou Shibasaki, with Joe Odagiri, Hikari Mitsushima, Himeno Aoyama, and Akihiro Ajimoto in supporting roles. -- One day, writer Riko is suddenly informed by the police of her brother's death. As she heads to Tohoku, where he had been living, she reflects on her bitter memories of him. At the police station, she reunites for the first time in seven years with her brother's ex-wife Kanako and their daughter Marina, as well as Ryoichi, who is temporarily under the care of a child welfare facility, and they cremate him. Later, while cleaning out the garbage-filled apartment where her brother lived, the three discover numerous family photos posted on the walls--photos of Riko and her brother as children, and photos of the family he built with Kanako, Marina, and Ryoichi. As Riko continues to complain while dealing with the aftermath, Kanako, who had also suffered because of him, quietly says, "Maybe there was a side of him you never knew." Confronting truths about her brother she never knew, feeling anger, laughter, and a few tears, the four begin four hectic days of reconsidering what family means. Includes trailer collection.
