Plot: One night, Mantaro Hanasaki, a veterinarian at Otsuki Veterinary Hospital, is walking a dog in his care when he hears a sad dog crying in the distance. He rushes to the scene, only to find an elderly man bleeding from the head and already dead at the bottom of the stairs in the park. Beside him, a French bulldog, probably the man's dog, is whimpering. The man was Kanosuke Morimoto, 65 years old. He was identified as the president of a pet goods mail-order company. Was it an accidental death...or was he killed by another person...? Inspector Reiko Minoda of the investigation headquarters visits Mantaro at the Otsuki Animal Hospital after learning that the veterinarian who found the dog at the scene had brought it back home. Mantaro seems to be quite eccentric, showing great affection for animals but seeming to have no interest in the human world...
