『夢』に賭けた男がいた。日本一になる『夢』に。星野仙一。その不屈の精神の源には、少年時代の野球への熱い想いと家族の絆があった。1988年の監督就任2年目の星野仙一率いる中日ドラゴンズのリーグ優勝を記念して製作された作品。星野仙一の生誕から明治大学進学までを描いている。青年期の仙一を演じた東幹久にとって、これがドラマデビュー作となった。――ある日、仙一はグラウンドの外に転がっているボールを見つけ、野球の練習をしていた顔見知りの田辺に投げ返した。グングンのびるボール。驚いた田辺は、仙一に投球フォームを教え、キャッチボールをしてくれた。仙一と野球との出会いであった。やがて中学に進んだ仙一は、当然のように野球部に入り、野球に賭ける仙一の情熱は、遠い未来のプロ野球のスターを夢見て、燃え上がっていた。
