However, due to the unexpectedly rapid advance of the German army, he is unable to deliver the order, and his unit is decimated. The General Staff blames Olgakov's delay in communicating orders as the cause of the unit's destruction, and sentences him to death by firing squad. Until his execution, Olgakov is held in solitary confinement under the watchful eye of Zurabayev. The German attack intensified day by day. Finally, even the General Staff headquarters becomes a battlefield, and Olgakov and his men try to escape through the fierce fighting.
