70年代から活動を続けるイギリスはリヴァプール出身のエレポップ・デュオ。「エノラ・ゲイの悲劇」というビッグ・ヒットを飛ばしたアンディ・マクラスキーとポール・ハンフリーズのふたりからなるこのユニットは、昨年のロンドン・オリンピックのオ―プニング・セレモニーにも登場したほどの高い人気を誇る。オリジナル・アルバムとしては前作『ヒストリー・オブ・モダーン』(2010)に続く12作目となる。一時はアンディのソロとして活動していたが、ポールが復帰してデュオ形態に戻っての実に24年ぶりの新録音アルバムとなった前作は、ポップなシンセ・サウンドを満載したOMD節全開の内容でファンを安心させた。そして今回の新作もその路線に大きな変化はなく、OMD印とも言えるエレクトロニック・サウンドが満載されている。大きな話題はElektric Music「Kissing The Machine」をカバーしていること。Elektric Musicはエレポップ / テクノポップの元祖、クラフトワークの元メンバー、カール・バルトスによるテクノ・ユニット。しかも本人も参加! これは大事件だ!
