あの、名門ウィーン・フィルが唸りを驀進する!マゼール渾身の1980年日本ライヴ。1980年秋、ベーム最後の来日となったウィーン国立歌劇場の伝説的な公演の直後にマゼール指揮で行われた、ウィーン・フィル単体の日本公演。名古屋市民会館および東京・昭和女子大学人見記念講堂での2回の演奏会でライヴ収録された「運命」と「未完成」は、ウィーン・フィルにとって初めての日本国内におけるレコード化を前提とした正規録音であり、CBSの名プロデューサー、スティーヴン・エプスタインを迎え、当時最新鋭だったソニーのデジタル録音機器によって収録された。マゼールが実演で見せる緊張感溢れる指揮ぶり、それに鋭敏に反応するウィーン・フィルの熱を帯びた演奏が聴きもの。「レオノーレ」第3番は、マゼールが1970年代後半にクリーヴランド管と残した生涯唯一の「ベートーヴェン:交響曲全集」と同時に収録されたもの。 ■初CD化音源収録 / 録音年: 1980年11月5日、1977年10月2日11月13日 / 収録場所: 名古屋市民会館ホール、東昭和女子大学人見記念講堂、クリーヴランド、メイソニック・オーディトリアム
