[Machine Translation] This is a live recording of Gergiev's Tchaikovsky Fifth, a performance given on June 11, 1989, five months before the fall of the Berlin Wall, to commemorate the visit of Mikhail Gorbachev, Secretary General of the Soviet Union at the time, to West Germany. The performance was given with the German-Soviet Junge Philharmonic Orchestra, which was founded by pianist and conductor Justus Franz, and whose principal conductor was Gergiev, who had also been appointed artistic director of the Kirov Opera and principal guest conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Even though this was an official government event, Gergiev's tremendous enthusiasm in front of the audience enveloped the young orchestra, and the vividness with which he led the music to its climax was a joy to hear. The German and Soviet national anthems are played.

ゲルギエフ若き日の知られざる凄絶ライヴによるチャイコフスキー「第5」。1989年6月11日、ベルリンの壁が崩れる5か月前、当時のソ連書記長だったゴルバチョフが西ドイツを訪問した際、その記念として行なわれた演奏会のライヴ録音。ドイツとロシアの優秀な若手奏者を集めて、ピアニスト・指揮者のユストゥス・フランツによって創設され、キーロフ・オペラ芸術監督就任、ロッテルダム・フィル首席客演指揮者を兼任していたゲルギエフが首席指揮者を務めていたドイツ=ソヴィエト・ユンゲ・フィルとの演奏である。政府の公式行事とはいえ、聴衆を前にしたゲルギエフの凄まじい熱気が若いオーケストラを包み込み、音楽をクライマックスへと導いてゆく生々しさが聴きもの。独・ソ国歌演奏付き。
