1997年に放送されセンセーションを巻き起こしたアニメ『少女革命ウテナ』の舞台化作品第二弾『少女革命ウテナ～深く綻ぶ黒薔薇の～』を映像化! 今作ではアニメ『少女革命ウテナ』放送20周年を記念し、2018年3月に上演されたミュージカル第一弾『少女革命ウテナ～白き薔薇のつぼみ～』で描かれた生徒会編の続編"黒薔薇編"を描く。脚本・演出は『少女革命ウテナ～白き薔薇のつぼみ～』に続き、舞台『男水!』やミュージカル『ヘタリア～In the newworld～』などを手掛けた気鋭の演出家・吉谷光太郎が担当。スーパーバイザーには前作に続き『少女革命ウテナ』の生みの親である幾原邦彦監督が参加。 特典ディスクには、顔合わせ・台本読み、稽古場・通し稽古、7月2日・公演3日目バックステージ、7月2日公演アフターイベント～鳳暁生の秘密の告白室～、大千穐楽バックステージ、ステージ全景映像を収録。
