映画音楽やテレビの劇音楽などで活躍する現代作曲家スチュアート・ハンコックの作品集。華麗なオーケストレーションとエキサイティングな作風は世界中のファンを魅了している。このアルバムはハンコックが愛するハリウッド映画への賛辞でもある「英雄的な主題による変奏曲」で幕を開け、「ヴァイオリンとオーケストラのための協奏曲」、アルバムタイトルでもあるオーケストラのための組曲「RAPTURES」へと続く。「RAPTURES」はもともと弦楽四重奏曲として考案されたが、今回の録音のためにオーケストラ版に拡大されており、豊かな音色と華やかさを備えた堂々たる作品へと変貌している。指揮を務めるのはレヴォン・パリキアン。ジョージ・ハーストとイリア・ムーシンに師事。現在はオックスフォード市管弦楽団の首席指揮者を務める傍ら、イギリスの主要オーケストラへの客演やロンドン王立音楽大学をはじめ各地のユース・オーケストラの指導にも当たる注目の指揮者。
