Probably the most important Japanese DVD release in the last 10 years, the TOSHIO MATSUMOTO ZEN GEKIEGA DVD BOX is any avant-garde cinema lover's dream come true. It's worth the money just for FUNERAL PROCESSION OF ROSES, the influential art masterpiece that put Japan at the forefront of the New Wave, and for SHURA (PANDEMONIUM), the nihilistic samurai classic. The fact that two of Matsumoto's other great films are included (DOGURA MAGURA and WAR OF SIXTEEN) is an added bonus, although the latter is without subtitles. All DVD's come loaded with extras (also unsubtitled), and the print quality is crystal clear. On top of this, the set comes with a small booklet with some great b&w stills, all housed in a beautiful box designed by famed artist Kiyoshi Awazu!
