Queens of the Stone Age have always given off an utterly unique appeal, one that lies not merely in their sound but in their very spirit. This album was created based on a philosophy connected to the traditional Japanese technique of "kintsugi". Kintsugi repairs cracked or chipped pottery by coloring the seams with gold. At its core is the idea of not simply restoring what has broken back to its original state, but transforming it, cracks, chips and all, into a new kind of beauty. This album, too, is a work that looks at the "beauty born precisely because something is broken". This album could only have been born at this exact moment because Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita, and Jon Theodore achieved major growth as a band and, after a hard struggle, arrived at solid new ground. The 9 songs on the album depict love in many forms, from family and friends to, as suggested by "Insignificant Other," everything from the irreplaceable to the insignificant. It is a love that can overwhelm a person to the point where mere survival feels difficult, and at the same time, a love that can stitch a shattered heart back together. Born out of sessions held in various locations from New Orleans to Los Angeles, this album is bold and unbound by boundaries, rich in shadow, unsettling yet gentle, with a strange resonance all its own. On this album, Queens of the Stone Age have tied together the countless sharp fragments they have accumulated throughout their career into a single form. Josh Homme says: "Every song sounds like it's from a different world. As for why the album is titled "Perfecth," Homme explains it this way: nothing labeled "perfect" truly exists, so he broke the word and made it "Perfecth" instead, feeling that a word that never quite fit deserved a spelling to match. "Nothing in this world is perfect, but everything seems to be perfecth," he says, adding, "that title is funny when you're in a group, but it ain't so funny when you're alone".
