Boekelson, who became King of Munster and assumed dictatorial power, imposed a reign of terror and massacred his opponents one after another. Boekelson's ambition of a "millennial kingdom," colored with blood and decadence, seemed to have been fulfilled. But the prolonged siege starved the citizens, and Munster finally fell...

悪魔か? 救世主か? 宗教改革に揺れる16世紀欧州を舞台に自らを予言者と名乗る1人の男の野望を描いた歴史ドラマ。 16世紀。宗教改革の嵐に翻弄される激動のヨーロッパ。中でも "再洗礼派" と呼ばれるグループは、急進的な過激思想でカトリック教団と対立していた。ドイツ中西部の都市ミュンスターでは、ヤン・ボケルソンという男が自ら預言者を名乗り、市民の支持を集めていた。ボケルソンは自らの権力を強化するため再洗礼派の指導者マテウスを招き、街をその支配下に収める。この事態を重視したバルデック枢機卿は軍を派遣、ミュンスターを包囲した。籠城が続く中、マテウスは謀略で命を落とす。ミュンスター王となり独裁権力を手にしたボケルソンは、恐怖政治を敷き反対派を次々と虐殺。"千年王国" を唱え、血と退廃に彩られたボケルソンの野望は果たされたかに思えた。だが、長引く籠城で市民は飢え、ついにミュンスターは落城の日を迎える・・・。
