The very essence of "crossover" as mastered by the brilliant Katsunori Ishida. A powerful groove and a vivid sound. The first album by Zerosen, a legendary group, is revived. Zerosen was a group led for a brief period in the 1970s by Katsunori Ishida, who would go on to handle music for numerous TV shows and films as a producer/composer-arranger. Its lineup was fluid, and the group disappeared after only a short period of activity. The only works left behind are two albums produced as audio component check records. In later years, however, these two works would draw worldwide attention as Japanese rare groove. Even as a first album, both the concept and the sound are already fully realized. Tracks such as "Scramble," where undulating grooves let the keyboard work shine, "Circuit," led by an intense beat, and "Majo no Sasayaki" (Witch's Whisper), a mellow Caribbean groove, leave no weak moment in the album. 鬼才・いしだかつのりが極めた"クロスオーヴァー"の神髄。強靭なグルーヴと鮮烈なサウンド。幻のグループ、ゼロ戦のファースト・アルバムが甦る。プロデューサー/作・編曲家として数多くのテレビ～映画音楽などを手掛けたいしだかつのり (石田勝範)が1970年代の一時期主導していたグループ、ゼロ戦。メンバーも流動的で、短期間活動したのみで姿を消してしまう。残された作品はオーディオ・コンポ・チェック・レコードとして制作された2枚のみ。しかしこの2作品は後年、日本産のレア・グルーヴとして世界的に注目されることになる。ファースト・アルバムにしてコンセプトもサウンドもすでに完成している本作。うねるグルーヴにキーボード・ワークが映える「Scramble」、強烈なビートがリードする「Circuit」、メロウなカリビアン・グルーヴ「魔女のささやき」など、その内容に一切の隙はない。秀逸な編曲と演奏が生み出す強靭なグルーヴ、オーディオ・コンポ・チェック・レコードという特質が有するサウンドの鮮烈さ。真の意味での"クロスオーヴァー"がここにある。text by 尾川雄介 (universounds / Deep Jazz Reality)
