Megalopolis

「売れなくても良いから、文化の匂いのするレコードを作ろう。日本人による日本人のジャズをやってほしい」。ディレクターの言葉を受け、松本浩は本作『Megalopolis』を録音することを決意する。コンセプトは＜東京＞。機内から眼下に見た、急速に変貌を遂げてゆく東京の光景にインスピレーションを得て制作に取り掛かった。松本、市川秀男、稲葉国光、日野元彦の4人は互いの顔や動きが見えるように円形にセッティングし、あえて細かい打ち合わせはせずに録音に臨んだという。組曲風の大作「都会の一日」、失われたものへの憧憬を描いた「ノスタルジア」、都市を俯瞰するような爽快さと昂ぶりがある「メガロポリス」、ほろ苦いアンニュイが滲む「セレナーデ」、内奥を抉るような「都会のいらだち」。巨大都市とそこに住む人々を、鋭い感性と創造性に満ちた演奏で描いた傑作である。オリジナルはビクター＜日本のジャズ＞シリーズの1枚としてリリースされた。text by 尾川雄介 (UNIVERSOUNDS / DEEP JAZZ REALITY)
