グラミー賞最優秀新人賞受賞のベーシスト/シンガー・ソングライターが手がけたブラック・ミュージックの最新系! エスペランサの新作! ポップでラジオ・フレンドリーなアルバムを目指した本作は、HipHop界の大御所＝Q-tipと共同でプロデュース! 彼女にグラミー賞新人賞をもたらした前作『Chamber Music Society』(2010年)では、長年の仲間であるLeo Genovese (key)、Terri Lynne Carrington (ds)、Quintino Cinalli (per)、そしてゲスト・ヴォーカルにMilton Nascimentoを迎えて制作されたが、本作ではそのキャストを格段に広げた。プレイヤーにはいずれもジャズ界の巨匠であるJoe Lovano (sax)、Jack DeJohnette (ds/p)、Billy Hart (ds)を招き、共同プロデューサーとしてヒップホップ界の巨人Q-Tipが参加。さらにAlgebra Blessett、Eulaulah Donyll “Lalah” Hathaway、Gretchen Parlato、Lionel Louekeといった様々な個性のヴォーカリストが参加し、花を添えている。12曲中の10曲が Esperanza による作詞・作曲。06 は Stevie WonderとSusaye Coton GreeneがMichael Jacksonの名作『Off The Wall』で作詞・作曲した「I Can't Help It」のカヴァー。そして 09 はWayne ShorterとJoseph Vitarelliの作曲で、Wayneの1985年アルバム『Atlantis』に収録されていた「Endangered Species」のカヴァー。
