1997年にフィンランド北カルヤラの都市ヨエンスーで結成された現在5人組のメロディック・デスメタルバンド=INSOMNIUM(インソムニウム)。2002年のデビュー作『In the Halls of Awaiting』からコンスタントに作品をリリースしているバンドだが、40分の壮大な1曲からなるコンセプト・アルバムの7作目『Winter's Gate』(2016年) が母国フィンランドで初のアルバムチャート1位に輝き、8作目となる『Heart Like a Grave』(2019年)も首位を獲得(ドイツでも初の10位)。今作は2021年に発売され、2020年にコロナ禍のロックダウン中の期間に、創造的かつ有意義に時間を使うことを余儀なくされた彼らがスタジオにこもって制作された作品。
