But with a constant stream of touring, the death of a friend, and the breakup of a relationship, he was dealing with personal issues and nearly fell into a cough syrup addiction. He decided he couldn't go on like this, so he called Rick Rubin (and in a drunken stupor) and holed up in a Malibu studio. Mac Miller, having broken free of his past bad habits, re-teamed with his old Pittsburgh production crew, I.D. Labs, and began work on a new album, his third. From the completed third album, "100 Grandkids" dropped as the first single. The video clip featuring Mac Miller in a school play was directed by Nick Walker. Mac Miller's climb to stardom has been met with a shadowy side, and he has climbed up from a mental low point.
