Description

-- It was a gift, and a prayer, to those living in the ruins. How did Hayao Miyazaki depict the world? From "Future Boy Conan" to "The Boy and the Heron", this reads and unravels its richness through the five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and sky. A culminating treatise on Hayao Miyazaki by the author of "Nausicaa-ko". Has there ever been a depiction, so delicate and so abundant, of human beings and the world in which they live and are kept alive, of all things in nature, drawn with such a penetrating gaze? Of course, I am writing while letting my thoughts dwell on Hayao Miyazaki and his animated films. It was, clearly, an event. (omission) I am merely one of those living in the same era who happened, as if by chance, to be present at and witness this event. Therefore, I wish to fix my eyes on the dance, or the scene resembling a festival, intricately woven by the elements that compose the world -- the earth, water, fire, and wind, and the heavens -- presented there. And so, amid the rustling of mountains, rivers, grasses, and trees, I wish to dig up the various aspects of the festival of life that birds, beasts, insects, and fish exchange with one another, carefully unraveling the text that is Miyazaki anime. -- From the main text.
