Description

[Machine Translation] Fudo Chishin Myo Roku" is one of the three major books on the art of war, along with "The Book of Five Rings" by Miyamoto Musashi and "Hyoho Ie Densho" by Yagyu Munenori. It was written by Sawan Sopeng, a Zen monk who was born into a samurai family but attained Buddhist enlightenment and became the abbot of Daitokuji Temple. It is the first book to teach "Ken-Zen-Innyo," which means that swordsmanship training is nothing but training of the mind, and it explains the movements of the mind and body to cope with not only battles but also all other situations. It was given to Yagyu Munenori Yagyu, the Shogun's chief instructor in swordsmanship, and thus became the sacred text of Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, but it is also widely read by other schools such as Ono-ha Itto Ryu, and was a favorite of Yamaoka Tesshu, the sword saint of the late Edo period. The "Ta-aki" (The Book of Ta-aki), which is also included in the book, shows how an ordinary person can become a master of the sword without becoming an ordinary person. The "Reiroku-shu" explains how our vision is clouded by our sensible mind.
