BOOGIE WOOGIE WALTZ (OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS 2)

This is a collection of 15 short manga works by Katsuhiro Otomo, published between 1974 and 1976 when he was between 20 and 22 years old, in the order in which they were published. It is a complete work that includes "One Down" and "Kagami Jigoku", a manga adaptation of Edogawa Rampo's short story, both of which have never been included in a book before. "Mezameyo to Yobu Koe Ari" has a fantastic last page that was omitted from the book when it was first published, and this is the first time it has been published in this book. BOOGIE WOOGIE WALTZ" and "GOOD WEATHER", both published by Kitansha, have been difficult to obtain for a long time, as they were distributed almost exclusively by mail order and were rarely sold in bookstores. Now, for the first time in 40 years, these early works have been officially and completely reprinted, including rare works that have never been published!

大友克洋が20～22歳のころ、1974～1976年にかけて発表した15編の短編漫画作品を発表順に収録した作品集。1982年に綺譚社より発行された単行本『BOOGIE WOOGIE WALTZ』の収録作を中心に、『ONE DOWN』、江戸川乱歩の短編を漫画化した『鏡地獄』という、これまで単行本には未収録だった2作品の、待望の初収録が実現したコンプリートな編成となっている。後に『童夢』や『AKIRA』へと結実する、若き大友克洋の粗削りながらも実験的で、新たな表現を模索する非凡な才気を深く味わうことのできる、意欲作ぞろいの内容だ。なお『目覚めよと呼ぶ声あり』は発表時にも単行本でも割愛された幻のラストページがあり、これは本書にて初公開となる。綺譚社刊行の『BOOGIE WOOGIE WALTZ』と『GOOD WEATHER』の2冊は、当時ほぼ通信販売のみの流通で、ほとんど書店に並ばなかったこともあり、長らく入手困難であった。そんな初期作品集が、未収録レア作品を加え、何と40年ぶりの正式・完全な復刻となる! ※「OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS」第2巻
