二〇一八年十一月公開映画『かぞくいろ―RAILWAYS わたしたちの出発』小説版オリジナルストーリー。夫を突然亡くした奥園晶は残された夫の連れ子・駿也とともに、夫の故郷・鹿児島に住む義父・節夫に会いに行く。節夫は、疎遠だった息子の死、突然現れた息子の嫁と孫の存在に困惑。行くあてがないという2人を自宅に住まわすことを決め、3人の共同生活が始まる。生活のため仕事を探していた晶は、肥薩おれんじ鉄道の運転士を志し、試験を受けることを決意。映画では、強く生きるシングルマザー・晶を有村架純、温かく支える義父・節夫を國村隼が演じる。
