[Machine Translation] The Monochrome Set was formed around the exotic vocals of Bid and the curmudgeonly guitarist Lester Squire, who spun folk, psychedelic, jazz, and other sounds in an aloof manner, and was unique in the neo-acoustic boom. The CD includes 18 songs, including "Lester Leaps In," "Life is a Game," "Love is Up and Down," "Goodbye Joe," and "Expresso," which would appear on her debut album, "Strange Boutique," released the following year on Virgin's DinDisc label. The DVD, which is the same as the CD, is in black and white and the picture quality is not great, but as the name of the band means "black and white TV," the rough picture quality matches the band's sound and is full of mysterious charm.

エキゾチックなビドのヴォーカルと、フォーク、サイケ、ジャズなど様々なサウンドを飄々と紡ぎだす曲者ギタリスト、レスター・スクエアを中心に結成されネオ・アコースティック・ブームの中では異彩を放っていたモノクローム・セットの1979年9月、ミネアポリスでのライヴを収録したCD+DVDセット。当時ラフ・トレイドと契約し、まだシングルを3枚発表しただけの頃でラフ・トレイド主催のプロモーション・ツアーの一環で行ったコンサートでシングル曲の「モノクローム・セットのテーマ」「ミスター・ビザロ」「ヒーズ・フランク」「アルファヴィル」「夜明けのシンフォニー」「レスター・リープス・イン」、そして翌年ヴァージン傘下のディンディスクに移籍し発表するデビュー・アルバム『ストレンジ・ブティック』に収録されることになる「人生はいたちごっこ」「恋はアップ・アンド・ダウン」「グッバイ・ジョー」「エクスプレッソ」など全18曲収録。CDと同内容のDVDはモノクロで画質も良くありませんが、白黒テレビを意味するバンド名らしく、その粗い画質がまた彼らのサウンドとマッチして不思議な魅了に溢れている。
