A Heart Wave

The album is a modern update of what was called "city pops" in the late 70's and 80's, and the songs "Highlight", "Dawn", and "Empty Circle", which feature an abundant horn section, stand out. The title was coined from the famous song "Heat Wave" by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, and is a reinterpretation of the phrase "to have one's heart beat like a wave to be moved by it. I want to carry this feeling with me no matter how old I get. As long as I do this, my youth will continue forever, no matter what the future holds!

前作アルバム『Golden Circle』から約2年ぶりとなる、通算3枚目のフルアルバム! これまでシティポップの文脈で語られることが多かった彼らだが、70年代後半～80年代の「シティポップス」と呼ばれていたようなそれを現代風にアップデートした印象の今作では『ハイライト』『夜明けまえ』『空回り』をはじめ、ホーンセクションをふんだんに使用した楽曲群がひときわ際立っている。技術面の成熟度もさらに高まり、表現したいものを綿密にじっくりと練り上げていくスタイルに変化してゆく中で制作された全9曲。一見上品で落ち着いた雰囲気を纏いながらも、ふつふつと内に秘めた情熱を感じられるアレンジ/ミックスにも要注目。タイトルはMartha Reeves & The Vandellasの名曲『Heat Wave』に由来して「心が波を打つこと≒感動すること」と捉え直した造語で「心が震える感覚、波立つほどに感動すること・・・この感覚をいくつになっても大切に携えていたい。」という想いを込めたという。そうする限り、青春はいつまでも、どんな未来でも続くのである!
