Zero Four One

[Machine Translation] Formed in 1982 at the height of the NWOBHM movement, GLASGOW is a four-piece band from Glasgow, Scotland, England, named after their hometown. The band debuted in 1984 with two singles, "Miles Better" and "Stranded," and released their debut album, "Zero For One," in 1987, during the heyday of heavy metal music. The album's content, which was based on the 80's background and the location of the United Kingdom, emphasizes melody, but it does not fall into excessive decoration compared to American bands of the same era, and it is full of a damp British atmosphere. It was highly acclaimed by enthusiasts as a fine work with a perfect balance of heavy and pop, including a cover of Chris Thompson's classic "Secrets in the Dark" from the older British band Manfred Manns Earth Band, which was later cut as a single. However, after the release of this album, the band broke up in 1988, leaving only two singles. Since there were not so many pressings at that time, the original version of this album was sold at a high price on the second-hand market as a phantom debut album. Although it was officially released in Japan at the time, it has not been reissued in Japan since then, and now it has finally been reissued after more than 30 years. In addition, "Will You be Mine," which was only released as a single at the time, is included as a bonus track. This is a must-see collector's item for enthusiasts.

NWOBHMムーヴメント真っ只中の1982年に結成され、出身地をそのままバンド名とした、イギリスはスコットランドのグラスゴー出身の4人組バンドGLASGOW。彼らは1984年に"Miles Better"や"Stranded"の2枚のシングルを出してデビューを飾り、ヘヴィメタル最盛期の1987年にデビュー・アルバム「ゼロ・フォー・ワン」をしたバンドで、本作はそのデビュー作の再発となる。そのアルバムの内容は、80年代という時代背景とイギリスという土地柄、メロディを重視した作風ながら、同時代のアメリカのバンドと比べて装飾過多に陥らない、湿り気のある英国の雰囲気満点の作品で、後にシングル・カットされた、英国の先輩バンドMANFRED MANNS EARTH BANDのクリス・トンプソンの名曲「Secrets in the Dark」のカヴァーを始め、ヘヴィとポップの絶妙のバランスが際立った佳作としてマニアの間で高く評価された。しかしバンドは本作リリース後、シングル2枚を残しバンドは1988年に解散してしまう。また、当時プレス数もそれほど多くなかったため、幻のデビュー・アルバムとして、オリジナル盤は現在に至るまで中古市場での価格が高騰した作品であった。当時日本においても正式リリースされたが、それ以降日本盤として再発されなかった本作が、30年以上の時を超えて遂に再発。更にボーナス・トラックとして当時シングルのみでリリースされた"Will You be Mine"を収録。マニア必見のコレクターズ・アイテムとして登場。
