After touring 11 countries around the world, what she arrived at was her own inner self. Thirteen years since her debut. When she traveled the farthest, she met her deepest self. Chasing the light, she encountered the shadow. Bilal, Braxton Cook, Jamila Woods, My Anh, Keyon Harrold, Peter CottonTale, Khari Mateen, Devin Morrison, Sam Wills, Bnnyhunna, MXXWLL. From legends to the next generation, the reason they chose Nao Yoshioka lies in this album. The stronger she became, the more her weakness came into view. If her previous album "Flow" was the chapter of surrendering to the current, "self" is the chapter of knowing that both the light and the shadow are entirely her own. The moment her dream came true, she met a self she had yet to see, the inner universe discovered at the end of a world tour. The world's soul scene converges into a single work. Philadelphia neo-soul legend Bilal, Grammy-winning producer Peter CottonTale, Emmy-winning Khari Mateen, world-class trumpeter Keyon Harrold, Chicago's celebrated poet and singer Jamila Woods, Devin Morrison running at the forefront of the indie R&B scene, Australian genius MXXWLL, UK vocalist with a beautiful voice Sam Wills, Bnnyhunna of the Netherlands with Ghanaian roots, Vietnamese rising star My Anh, Finnish up-and-comer Misha, and Taiwanese vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu. Artists from America, Europe, and Asia converge into one work. This is also the fruition of the "WORLD SOUL COLLECTIVE" philosophy that SWEET SOUL RECORDS has long embodied. Crossing the boundaries of genre, country, and race, it sounds out the present state of soul music on a global scale. Spanning neo-soul, indie R&B, Afrobeats, house, and spiritual jazz, Nao Yoshioka's voice ties them all together with a single thread. The connections and trust built on the tour of 11 countries for the previous album "Flow" made this album possible. Evolution into a soul singer-songwriter, the awakening of her 13th year. After a 13-year career, Nao Yoshioka is now making a clear evolution from a soul singer into a soul singer-songwriter. From a singer to a storyteller, and then to a songwriter. She has spent more than ten years honing the power to channel her own message into music. That result appeared in a special studio connected to a Manhattan rooftop, when Bilal, who traveled an hour and a half from Philadelphia, entered the booth with a notepad and pen in hand. Based on the top line Nao created, lyrics were woven on the spot, and overwhelming vocals were layered on top. While continuing to stand on the world's stages as a live artist, her expression as a writer has deepened further. With her 15th debut anniversary approaching, Nao Yoshioka is still on the path of her growth. This album is the proof of that, and a sure step toward the next stage. The road to "self": beyond embracing light and shadow. When she completed all 11 countries on the world tour for the previous album "Flow", what spread through Nao Yoshioka's heart was not a sense of accomplishment but the conviction that it had only just begun. Not a goal, but a start. That intuition became the origin of this album. At the end of 13 years spent chasing only the light, she faced the shadow for the first time. Loneliness, and guilt. That was Nao Yoshioka's shadow. Not to overcome weakness, but to face and love it. The self she reached after integrating the shadow that Jung speaks of. When she realized that both the self she had never shown and the self that had been shining were her true self, her music gained a new freedom. Nao Yoshioka sounds out the gradation from dark to light with her own voice. COLLABORATING ARTISTS, MUSICIANS, AND ENGINEERS. MESSAGE BY NAO YOSHIOKA. Album therapy. That is what I call the making of this album, the experience of being healed by creating. For the first time, on my sixth album, I came to deeply understand its meaning. There was a self I had always tried not to see, a self that was weak and lacking and believed she could not be loved unless she kept trying hard. I did not want to accept her, but she was certainly hidden within me. On this album, for the first time, I was able to turn that weakness, just as it is, into music, without fear. I packed in many hopeful songs and songs that brighten everyday life. But just as much, the other me who kept whispering I have to try harder and I have to be stronger also lives within this album. The moment I stopped ignoring that voice, faced it, and set it free, that, for me, was self. The me who headed toward the light and the me I could never show anyone were both my true self. To the fans who have always cheered me on, and to everyone around the world who supports this music. Because you are here, I have been able to come this far. With heartfelt gratitude, I deliver this album. I hope it will be an album that gently accompanies your everyday life.
