Description

[Machine Translation] Winner of the Italian Critics Award at the Venice International Film Festival in 1956. Aldrich's early masterpiece, set on the European front in 1944 at the end of World War II, depicts the feud between soldiers fighting against the Germans. Based on Norman Brooks' stage play "Fragile Fox," this is a unique war film in which a despicable enemy exists not only within the enemy army but also within the corrupt own army. The lead character, Lieutenant Costa, is played by Jack Palance, known for his role as the assassin in "Shane," who gives a gruesome performance as a man with a vindictive streak. As Captain Cooney, whose total cowardice is painful to watch, we have Eddie Albert, who played a heartbreaking cameraman in "Roman Holiday". The snobby Colonel is played by Lee Marvin of "Operation Suicide Squadron", who is unrivaled when it comes to playing military men. Commentary leaflet/postcard enclosed.
