日本テレビ系『歌唱王～全日本歌唱力選手権～』第13回優勝、応募総数12,517件の頂点に立った"天才演歌少年"西山琳久。審査委員長・秋元康が自らプロデュースを手掛けたデビュー曲「おんじい」は、「歌がうまいだけではなく、いかにオンリーワンの存在として成立させるか」という問いのもと制作された意欲作。5,000曲以上の作詩経験をもつ秋元氏が、西山の個性と将来性を見据え、"広く届く楽曲"として構築した一曲。タイトルの「おんじい」は方言で"おじいちゃん"を意味し、演歌の原点となった祖父への想いを軸に、世代を超えた共感を喚起する物語型演歌作品に仕上がっている。さらにカップリングにはタイプの異なる3曲を収録。タイプ CのDVDにはMV・MVメイキングを収録。メロ譜付。
