Miss Toger, the no-rock principal of Vince Lombardi High School, is a megalomaniac who polices her students by measuring the relative noise level of rock music and burning rock records with two of the school's bad boys, Hansel and Gretel, at her beck and call. Riff Randell, who loves rock and roll, is not deterred by the relentless interference and writes a song for his favorite band, The Ramones, in music class, "Rock 'n' Roll High School" and presents it at their concert. The band was overjoyed to receive the song. The Ramones, the world's first punk rock band, go to the high school to defeat Miss Toger for the riff! The Ramones turned down numerous movie offers to appear in this definitive rock film, the only film in which they appeared, and it is directed by B-movie mastermind Roger Corman, a student of Corman's who also directed "Disco High", "Hollywood Boulevard" ('76) and "Death Sports" ('78). Director Alan Arkash, a student of Corman who had worked on "Hollywood Boulevard" ('76) and "Death Sports" ('78), gave a clear reason why "you can't blow up a high school for a disco," and Corman was convinced, and a painful rock movie was born. The original idea was conceived by Arkash and Joe Dante of "Piranha" ("Piranha") ('78). The film was shot by Dean Cundy, who has worked on "Halloween" ('78), "Object X" ('82), and the "Back to the Future" series. After Todd Rundgren turned him down, Paul Bartel, director of "Death Race 2000" ('75) and "The Frying Pan Killer" ('82), recommended the Ramones to Corman, who was thinking of doing a cheap trick. Todd Rundgren later regretted rejecting the offer and became depressed. The Ramones, all of whom were big Corman fans, agreed to appear in the film, which was filmed at ROXY, a live house in LA, from 07:30 in the morning to 01:00 in the morning. In the film, the Ramones perform live, play in a convertible, take a shower while playing bass, eat pizza in the dressing room, and even have dialogues. P.J. Sauls of "Carrie" ('76) and "Halloween" ('78) gives an enthusiastic performance as high school girl Riff Randell. Other notable actors include Clint Howard, brother of Corman student Ron Howard ("Devil's Speak" ('81) and "Execution Rider" ('86)), and Andy Warhol Factory graduate Clint Howard, who starred in "Bakugan! (The Cannonball) ('75), Mary Woronov of "Hollywood Boulevard" ('76), and Dick Miller of "The Noonday Illusion" ('67) and "Big Bad Mama" ('74). Vincent Van Patten, who plays a miserable high school boy, is also a professional tennis player and boasts a brilliant record, winning a tournament in Tokyo against John McEnroe in 1981. The giant rat is Rob Bottin, a master of special makeup whose works include "Monster Panic" (1980), "Howling" (1981), and "Robocop" (1987). The Ramones' car is driven by Rodney Bingenheimer, a DJ at LA radio station KROQ. The soundtrack is a rock 'n' roll affair, with songs by Alice Cooper, Paul McCartney & Wings, Divo, and the Velvet Underground, among others, in addition to a large number of Ramones songs. Combining the Ramones, rock, school, and explosions in a perfect Corman quality, "Rock 'n' Roll High School" is everything a "rock movie" could possibly be.

次は君たちの学校の番だ! ロック! 学校! 爆発!! 昨年、製作から43年を経てついに日本初の正式劇場公開となった、RAMONESの魅力全開、超コーマン品質ロック・ムービー史上最高傑作のブルーレイが復活! ヴィンス・ロンバルディ高校のロック全面禁止校長、ミス・トーガーは校内のダメ男2人、ヘンゼルとグレーテルを手下に、ロックの相対騒音度を測定、ロック系レコードを燃やして生徒を取り締まる巨漢だ。ロック大好きリフ・ランデルは執拗な妨害にもめげず音楽の授業で大好きなバンド、ラモーンズのために「ロックンロール・ハイスクール」を作詞、ライヴ会場でプレゼントすることに成功する。曲を受け取ったバンドは大喜び。世界初のパンク・ロック、ラモーンズはリフのため、ミス・トーガーを成敗するべく高校へ乗り込む! ラモーンズが数々の映画出演オファーを断りながらも唯一出演したロック映画の決定版。B級映画の首領ロジャー・コーマンが『ディスコ・ハイ』というタイトルで映画を企画、『ハリウッド・ブルバード』(76)『デススポーツ』(78)を手掛けたコーマン門下生アラン・アーカッシュ監督が「ディスコに合わせて高校を爆破することはできない」という明快な理由を提示、コーマン納得の痛快ロック・ムービーが誕生した。原案はアーカッシュと『ピラニア』(78)のジョー・ダンテ。撮影は『ハロウィン』(78)『遊星からの物体X』(82)や『バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー』シリーズを手掛けるディーン・カンディ。トッド・ラングレンが出演を断ったのち、チープ・トリックを考えていたコーマンにラモーンズを推薦したのは出演者でもあり、『デス・レース2000年』(75)『フライパン殺人』(82)の監督のポール・バーテル。のちにトッド・ラングレンはオファーを蹴ったことを後悔、落ち込んだ。ラモーンズはメンバー全員大のコーマンファンにて出演を快諾、LAのライヴハウス"ROXY"で実際に客を呼んでの早朝07:30～夜中の01:00までの過酷な撮影をこなした。劇中でラモーンズはライヴを披露するほか、オープンカーに乗りながらの演奏、シャワーを浴びながらベースを弾き、楽屋でピザを頬張り、台詞まであるという大活躍。『キャリー』(76)『ハロウィン』(78)のP.J.ソールズが女子高生リフ・ランデルを熱演。そのほかコーマン門下生ロン・ハワードの弟で『デビルスピーク』(81)『処刑ライダー』(86)のクリント・ハワード、アンディ・ウォーホル・ファクトリー出身で『爆走! キャノンボール』(75)『ハリウッド・ブルバード』(76)のメアリー・ウォロノフ、『白昼の幻想』(67)『ビッグ・バッド・ママ』(74)のディック・ミラーなどコーマン組大挙出演。悲惨な男子高校生を演じたヴィンセント・ヴァン・パテンはプロテニスプレイヤーとしての顔も持ち、81年には東京での大会でジョン・マッケンローに勝利するという輝かしい戦績を誇る。ライヴ会場の観客のなかに映るのは伝説のLAパンクバンド、ジャームスのダービー・クラッシュとローナ・ドゥーム、巨大ネズミは『モンスター・パニック』(80)『ハウリング』(81)『ロボコップ』(87)など特殊メイクの名手ロブ・ボッティン。ラモーンズの乗る車はLAのラジオ局KROQのDJロドニー・ビンゲンハイマーが運転している。サウンドトラックには大量のラモーンズ楽曲のほか、アリス・クーパー、ポール・マッカートニー&ウィングス、ディーヴォ、ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドなどの曲が使われまさにロックまみれ。ラモーンズ、ロック、学校、爆発というこれ以上望むことは不可能な要素を完璧にコーマン品質で組み合わせた『ロックンロール・ハイスクール』は＜ロック・ムービー＞というものが成し得ることができるものすべてを備えた映画となった。
